Spirit shirt and sweatshirt order forms went home today!!

Sixth Grade

• Religion: WE are doing the Safe Environment Unit in Religion this week.  Today we talked about safe and unsafe touches.
• Science: We are reviewing Chapter 4.  We will have our Chapter test on Thursday.Today's homework is questions #1-20 on page 119-120, if it was not completed in class.

Seventh Grade

• Religion: We started the Safe Environment Curriculum today.  We did not get very far today due to the visit from St. Nicholas, but we will finish Self-Safety tomorrow.
• Science: Chapter 4 Assessment on page 139-140, questions # 1-24, if not finished in class.  Chapter 4 Test will be on Thursday.

Eighth Grade

• Religion: Today most of our class time was spent with Saint Nicholas.  Tomorrow we will begin the Safe Environment Curriculum.
• Science: Today was our first day of the Safe the Penguins Unit.  This is a joint math and science unit with Mrs. Swickey and Mrs. Lassiter.  Today we introduced the topic of penguins and their habitats.  Then we did an experiment about heat loss/heat transfer using soda and various insulators.

Tuesday, November 16

Science Fair is fast approaching!  Your child should be wrapping up his or her testing this week.  A list of revised due dates was sent home yesterday.  The first due date is Thursday.

6th Science Homework: Titles for Science Fair Display Board are due on Thursday, October 18th.  They must be typed  or cut-out letters.  They must be backed with construction paper.

8th Grade Science: We took key terms vocabulary test.  Then we started Chapter 3 Section 4: Graphing Gas Behavior.  We made a graph out of given data.

Attention all grades:

• I have been having trouble with my school e-mail.  If you need to reach me, please call the school office!  Hopefully my e-mail will be up and running soon!
• Remember, Your Science Fair topic and Hypothesis is due on Friday, October 1st.  Remember to bring your science fair folder to class with you on Thursday!

6th Grade

Religion: We began Chapter 4 and talked about how God promised to send us a  savior.  Students wrote acrostic poems.

Science: We are still working on minerals.  We checked on our experiments from yesterday where we are attempting to grow crystals.  We looked at the six crystal shapes in our textbook.  Our assignment for the day was to make cubic and hexagonal shapes from paper.  Vocabulary test over key terms from section 2 and 3 will be on Wednesday.



7th Grade

Religion:  We finished Chapter 4 and started working on the test review.  Test review is due Thursday.

Science: We finished our power point on respiration.  We reviewed photosynthesis with a brain pop video.  Our assignment was worksheet 196/197.  Worksheet is due Wednesday along with vocabulary words from section 2 and 3.  Vocabulary test will be on Wednesday.


8th Grade

Religion: We went over the Chapter 3 Test Review.  Chapter 3 test will be on Thursday.

Science:  Today we reviewed states of matter with a brain pop video.  Then we conducted a lab where we observed changes of state using melting ice.  Tonight's homework was to finish answering the lab sheet questions and study for vocabulary test.  The section 2 and 3 vocabulary test is Wednesday.  Key terms are also due on Wednesday.

Thursday, September 23rd

Tomorrow is our first House Day of the year!  Wear your house shirt!!  Progress reports will go home tomorrow as well as Science Fair Information.  Your first deadline is to have your topic and hypothesis to me by October 1st.

6th Grade

Religion- We finished Chapter 3.  We will have Chapter 3 Test Review on Friday and Chapter 3 Exam on Monday.

Science- Today we took a Vocabulary Quiz.  We also talked about the characteristic properties used to identify minerals.

7th Grade

Religion- We talked about prose and poetry and how they are used in the New Testament.

Science- Today we studied Photosynthesis. 

8th Grade

Religion- Today we discussed the characteristics of Faith.
Science- Today we had a vocabulary test.  Then we talked about Gas Behavior.  Our homework is Worksheet 179/188.

Monday, September 20

Sixth Grade

Religion:  We read the second Creation story in Genesis and learned how God created human beings, body and soul.  We also wrote about the gifts an abilities that we have and how we can use them to be closer to God.

Science: We started our Chapter on Minerals today.  We had our first trip to the lab where we described different mineral and rock samples.  Homework:  Key Terms on page 66.  Write a definition for each of the eight key terms.  Vocabulary test over the terms will be on Thursday.


Seventh Grade

Religion: Today we learned about historical and religious truth in the Bible. 

Science: We started learning about the chemical make-up of cells.  We learned about elements, atoms, compounds,and molecules.  Homework:  Key terms on page 74.  Write a definition for each of the 10 key terms.  Vocabulary test will be on Wednesday. 


Eighth Grade

Religion: Today we talked about belief and faith.  Homework:  Write a skit for Genesis 22:1-19.  Skit must contain the following four characters- narrator, voice of God, Abraham, and Isaac.

Science: Today we learned the characteristics of the three phases of matter: solids, liquids, and gases.
Homework: Key terms on page 70.  Write a definition for each of the eight terms.  Vocabulary test for the eight words will be on Wednesday.

Wednesday, September 15th

On Thursday all three grade levels will be having tests in both Science and Math. 

6th Grade:

Attention Eight Grade Parents:  Progress Reports are coming home on Thursday.  Some students came by after school to get their report early.  If your child did not get his/her report early, they will be passed out in class tomorrow.  Please sign the progress reports and return them to school.  Monday, September 20th is the last day I will take missing assignments.  Please read the homework policy with your child.  Students lose 10 points every day that they are late.  Assignments are not accepted after the fifth day.

Today in science we started talking about the big ideas in Earth Science.  We will finish it up tomorrow and also talk about technology.  Today's homework is worksheet p. 57

7th Grade
Today in science we talked about the steps in the scientific inquiry process.  We also talked about technology and the relationship between science and technology.  Tonight's homework is worksheet p. 61 & 67.  Tomorrow we will practice the steps of scientific inquiry with a lab!

8th grade
Today in science we learned about the steps of the scientific inquiry process.  We also learned about variables.  We practiced manipulating variables by making shadows and trying to make the shadows disappear.  Today's homework was the Math Box on page 13 in the textbook.  Complete #1-5.
